2022 Ford F-150 vs. 2022 GMC Sierra 1500
If your work or hobbies require you to drive a powerful pickup truck with plenty of capability, you’re not alone! Many people need or want a rugged vehicle that can keep up with their day-to-day activities, and so there are plenty of great options for pickup trucks on the market. This is both a good thing and a difficult thing– it means there’s definitely an option out there to perfectly suit your needs, but sorting through so many trucks to get there is going to be a pain.
Take the 2022 Ford F-150 and the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500, for example. They’re both popular trucks and they’re both known for power and durability that would serve you well, but which one will actually be the better fit for you and your lifestyle? To help you decide, here’s a comparison of some of the major differences between these two vehicles.
Power
A durable, hard working truck needs to be able to provide you with a certain amount of power in order to really perform. The 2022 Ford F-150 and the 2022 GMC Sierra both have plenty of functional engine options, however, the F-150 offers a greater maximum engine output, with 450 hp and 570 lb.-ft. of torque. The Sierra 1500, on the other hand has a maximum power output of 420 hp and torque output of 460 lb.-ft., still very respectable for a pickup, but the F-150 comes out on top in terms of power.
Electrified Options
Although gas-powered vehicles still dominate the road, the age of the electric vehicle is coming, and more and more drivers are making the switch and enjoying the benefits of battery electric trucks, cars, and SUVs, like reduced maintenance costs, reduced fuel spending, quieter driving, a smaller carbon footprint, and cutting-edge technology. Currently the F-150 offers an electrified version in the form of the groundbreaking F-150 Lightning, but GMC does not offer an electrified version of any of its trucks, including the Sierra 1500.
Capability
From jobs where you need to do lots of heavy lifting to trips and vacations where you might want to tow a boat or a camper, there are endless situations where you need to be able to rely on the capability that your truck provides. If your truck doesn’t have the capacity you need to perform the tasks you have in front of you, you’ll be up the creek without a paddle, so prioritizing capability is always important. The 2022 Ford F-150 has a maximum towing capacity of 11,300 lbs, while the 2022 GMC Sierra has a maximum towing capacity of only 9,400 lbs, giving the F-150 the upper hand.
Safety
Safety and security while driving are always important, no matter where and when you plan to do most of your driving. On the 2022 F-150, you’ll find a few safety features that you won’t find on the 2022 Sierra, like a post-collision braking system that helps you avoid secondary crashes after a collision or a driver alert system to help you fight against distraction. The 2022 Ford F-150 was also a winner of the IIHS Top Safety Pick award in 2022. The 2022 GMC Sierra, on the other hand, didn’t make a high enough score to place on the Top Safety Pick list.
With the 2022 Ford F-150 and the 2022 GMC Sierra are both high-quality pickup trucks that can take you far, when you take a closer look at how they stack up against each other, the F-150 provides better performance and more advanced options as well as better safety features.
